Year-End Competition & Awards

"Images of the Year" and "Photographers of the Year" awards are selected at the end of each Competition Year.

The awards are presented at the annual CVDCC banquet

Images of the Year

All images that won an award (Honorable Mention or Excellence Award) during the competition year are entered into a special end of year competition. From among these images a panel of three outside judges select those images in each Division (Pictorial, Nature, etc) deserving of Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards and also select 7 Honorable Mentions.

Only the original posted images will be entered.

The Competition Chair may limit the number of entries depending on the number of award winning images the previous year so as not to overwhelm the judges. In so limiting the number of images, the lowest scoring images may be excluded.

Photographers of the Year

"Photographer of the Year" Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards are made to members who have accumulated the most competition points during the competition year across all divisions. These awards are a measure of both competition participation and image excellence.

In accumulating points for these awards, 1 point is awarded for every image entered. In addition, 2 points are added if the image receives an Honorable Mention, and 4 points are added if the image receives an Excellence Award. Thus an Excellence Award receives a total of 5 points.

An image of a member who moves from Intermediate to Advanced during the Competition Year receive the number of points relevant to the Skill Level at which the image was entered. Thus, an image that scored 8 when the member was at the Intermediate Level and thus received an Excellence Award will still be eligible for 5 points in the Photographer of the Year calculation, even though it were only be eligible for 3 points for an HM had the member been at the Advanced Level when the image was entered..
